A falling-sand physics sandbox with hundreds of elements. Pour lava into water, grow trees from seeds, wire up tesla coils, launch fireworks and blow up buildings with C-4 while heat, air pressure, electricity and gravity play out pixel by pixel.
The Powder Toy is a free physics sandbox. Pick from hundreds of elements (powders, liquids, gases, explosives, electronics, life and more) and draw them onto the screen, then watch them interact. The game simulates heat, air pressure and velocity, electricity and gravity, so lava cools into stone and boils water into steam, sparks run along metal wires, plants drink water and grow, and explosives build up pressure that shatters bricks and glass. Build volcanoes, machines, circuits, cities to knock down, or just make a mess.
How to play: pick an element from the menus on the right and bottom, then left-click to draw it and right-click to erase. The mouse wheel or [ and ] change the brush size and Tab changes its shape. Hold Shift to draw a line, Ctrl to draw a box. Space pauses and unpauses, F steps one frame, Z zooms, Ctrl+Z undoes, the number keys switch display modes (heat, pressure, fire and more) and H hides the on-screen info. Press F1 for the full list of controls.
Modding: the game has a built-in Lua API. Press the backquote key (`) to open the Lua console and script the simulation: create and change particles, register callbacks that run every frame, add new elements or build your own tools.
